About Venture Up North
Like to travel a little differently? You’ve come to the right place…
Venture Up North is the alternative travel guide to Northern England.
Let us help you discover the Northern England that the guidebooks don’t tell you about. The places only the locals know. The quirky accommodation and the most exciting ways to spend your days. Plus, some meanderings from real northerners about what life is really like in this part of the world.
And just how will we do all that, I hear you ask?
Well, Venture Up North isn’t just any normal blog.
We invite northern voices, whoever and wherever they are, to submit articles to be published on this website.
You see, we recognise that we may be Northern, but we’re not just Northern. We’re Scouse, we’re Geordie, we’re Lancashire Lasses and Yorkshiremen. We’re lifelong Northerners, newly established Northerners, temporary Northerners, Northerners that moved away and Northerners that came back home.
Whatever your story, we know that The North is a beautifully diverse and eclectic place, and we understand that if we really want to capture the true essence of The North, we need to hear from the people who call this part of the world home.
Disclosing local secrets to inspire unique adventures, our mission is to create an inclusive online community where The North is celebrated by those who love it the most.
Hi! I’m Helen – proud Northerner and the founder of Venture Up North.
I’ve always had a passion for travel and new experiences and in 2017, I finally fulfilled a lifelong dream and took a 6 month sabbatical to go backpacking across South America, Australia and South East Asia.
Ironically, it was whilst I was far away from home that the idea for Venture Up North took hold.
During my travels, I met people from all over the world and quickly discovered that for many, a trip to the UK simply meant a trip to London. It seemed as though my Northern home was often overlooked as a possible travel destination.
Fast-forward a few years and I’ve unpacked my backpack and settled back into life in Liverpool.
But that doesn’t mean my adventures are over.
Through Venture Up North, I not only want to get to know my own corner of the world a little better, but I want to make sure The North is recognised for the truly wonderful place it is.
I’m excited to connect with local people, local businesses and local organisations to create new opportunities and showcase the best of The North for the benefit of everyone, everywhere.
